Candle Safety and Care

Here at Mulderie Wood we hand make all our candles and regulalry test all formulations, tins and wicks to ensure you are getting the best burning candle possible. There are some things you can do in order to maximise the life of your candle and burn them safely ...

Wick Care

Soy wax is well documented to burn with minimal soot but all candles will emit a degree of soot if the wick is not regularly trimmed. Avoid soot and lengthen the life of your candle by keeping your wick trimmed to 5-8mm max. This is particularly important to avoid black soot marks on our glass container candles.

Burning Instructions

Soy wax will follow where it was last burnt to - it has a memory; so for the first burn we recommend burning your candles until the wax has melted to the edge. Then when you light it again it will follow that path and no wax will be wasted. It is also recommended that you burn your candle for a max of 4 hours each time and keep the wick trimmed to 5mm to 8mm. Please remove all packaging, including the ribbon, prior to lighting and follow candle safety advice at all times.

Burn Time

Each size of candle has an estimated burn time. Our estimation of the burn time of your candle is based on tests we do here in house and also by our independent testers. This is based on burning your candle for a maximum of 4 hours not more than once every 24 hours. It is also based on following our candle care instructions including keeping the wick trimmed.

Candle Safety

Warning! To prevent fire and serious injury burn candle within sight. Keep away from drafts and vibrations. Keep out of reach of children and pets. Never burn candles on or near anything that can catch fire. Keep candle free of any foreign materials inc. matches and wick trimmings. Only burn the candle on a level fire resistant surface. Tins can get hot when burnt for a long time and may mark painted or varnished surfaces - we recommend the use of a candle plate under your candle.

As of June 2015 all UK candlemakers have to label any sensitisers (even naturally occurring ones) contained in their candles under the ‘Classification of Labelling & Packaging’ or CLP.  All our candles are labelled with full allergens (if present) clearly on the base.

If you have a particular sensitivity to an ingredient please contact us for a full list of ingredients so we can best advise you.
